MOBILE, Ala. (May 7, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, blanked the Jackson Generals 4-0 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Jake Jewell (1-1) earned his first Double-A win, tossing six scoreless frames. He only allowed three hits, struck out six, and did not issue a walk in the quality start. Justin Anderson and Eric Karch combined to blank the Generals (19-10) over the final three innings and preserve the shutout, the third of the year for the BayBears (12-18).
After four scoreless innings, the BayBears tallied an unearned run against Brooks Hall (1-2) in the bottom of the fifth. It was the first lead for Mobile in the series. Hall recorded a quality start as well, giving up four hits and striking out five over six frames, but took the loss.
Forrestt Allday added to the lead with a two-run double in the seventh, the highlight of a three-run inning. Allday went 2-for-4 and has now reached base in 13 consecutive games.
Sunday was the third shutout recorded by Mobile pitching this season, and it was the second time the Generals were blanked. The win snapped a season-long eight-game losing streak for the BayBears.
