Modesto, CA. - Bryson Brigman capped the Modesto Nuts 4-3 comeback win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field in front of 5,052 members of Nuts Nation.
Trailing until the eighth inning, the Nuts (34-49; 4-9) Kevin Santa started the game-tying rally in the eighth. After David Bednar retired the first two in the inning, Santa singled. Anthony Jimenez followed. He struck out but the ball got away from the catcher Luis Torrens. Jimenez reached first safely when Torrens made a bad throw allowing Santa to reach third as well. During the next at-bat, Bednar uncorked a wild pitch allowing Santa to score the tying run.
In the top of the tenth, Seth Elledge (W, 4-1) stranded the free runner. In the bottom of the tenth, Nick Zammarelli started the inning at second base. After Blake Rogers (L, 2-2) got the first two outs of the inning, Bryson Brigman delivered the walk-off RBI single with a line drive into right field.
The win got Reggie McClain off the hook for an undeserved loss. The Nuts' starter worked into the seventh inning against the Storm (38-45; 4-9). He allowed just three runs on a grounder that was misplayed at third, a sac fly and an infield single. McClain worked 6 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
Santa, Evan White, and Brigman each had multi-hit games in the winning effort that secured the series victory against the Storm.
The Nuts embark on a nine-game road trip beginning with the five-game series opener against the JetHawks on Wednesday night. First pitch in Lancaster is set for 6:35 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:20 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC by clicking HERE.
