August 2, 2016

Manchester - Emilio Guerrero homered to put the Fisher Cats in front and Roemon Fields drove in two runs in a 6-4 win over the Akron RubberDucks Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Guerrero's two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning put New Hampshire in front for the first time in the game.

Jeremy Gabryszwski (6-8) earned his first win in more than a month, working the first five innings. Murphy Smith tossed two scoreless innings and Chris Smith worked two innings for his eighth save for the Fisher Cats (48-60).

Akron (55-55) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Greg Allen led off with a single and Luigi Rodriguez walked. Allen went to third on a flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nellie Rodriguez. Mike Papi doubled in a run and Joe Sever plated Papi with a single for a 3-0 lead.

The Fisher Cats battled back in the bottom of the frame to make it 3-2. Christian Lopes doubled, Ryan Lavarnway singled and Rowdy Tellez singled for the first run. Jason Leblebijian beat out an infield single as Lavaranway for another run.

In the fourth inning, Derrick Loveless singled and stole second ahead of the Guerrero home run. The shot off starter and loser Nick Pasquale (1-5) gave New Hampshire a lead they would not give up.

Roemon Fields drove in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bunt single, and added an RBI in the bottom of the eighth with a double after Lopes had walked.

Akron's Todd Hankins drove in the final run of the night with a fielders choice in the top of the ninth but Chris Smith got pinch-hitter Jordan Smith to groundout to end the game with a man on base.

Game two of the series with Akron will be on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m, a Camp Colors Day at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. LHP Shane Dawson (6-4, 3.54) is the scheduled starter for the Fisher Cats against RHP D. J. Brown (5-6, 4.63) for the RubberDucks. For information and tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
