Weaver travels up to Arkansas

Hot on the heels of his most impressive win yet as a pro, Jered Weaver was promoted to Double-A Arkansas late Friday night.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's 2004 first-round draft pick allowed one hit and fanned 10 in seven innings Thursday night as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes blanked the Inland Empire 66ers, 1-0.

It marked the right-handed pitcher's fourth win in a row, and he gave up only four earned runs during that run. During his winning streak, Weaver posted a 1.52 ERA. He allowed only four earned runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out 36 in 23 2/3 innings.

In his month-long stay with the Quakes, Weaver compiled a 4-1 record over seven starts. In 33 innings, he allowed 18 runs -- 14 earned -- on 25 hits for a 3.82 ERA. Weaver struck out 49, walked seven and got tagged for three home runs.

The phenom will join the Travelers for Saturday's contest against the Tulsa Drillers. His Texas League debut will be announced after the game.

Weaver was drafted out of Long Beach State, where he won the '04 Golden Spikes Award as the nation's top collegiate player. He signed with the Angels on May 30, the last day they had his rights before the '05 First-Year Player Draft.

Left-handed pitcher Pedro Borbon Jr. was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake City, leaving room for Weaver at Arkansas. Right-handed pitcher Jesse Smith was promoted from Class A Cedar Rapids to take Weaver's spot with Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga.
