66ers go back-to-back-to-back in first

Wing, Haerther, Calhoun string longballs in 6-1 win over Visalia
May 17, 2011
Twice may be nice, but thrice is better.

Michael Wing, Casey Haerther and Kole Calhoun went yard in three consecutive at-bats in the first inning to pace Class A Advanced Inland Empire to a 6-1 win over Visalia on Monday.

With two on and no outs, Wing launched a pitch from Rawhide starter Michael Belfiore over the left-field wall for his first homer of the season. Haerther, a fifth-round pick by the Angels in 2009, followed with a blast to right-center and Calhoun completed the feat with his eighth longball.

Playing in his first game since April 25 for the Angels affiliate after being placed on the disabled list with a leg injury, Wing finished with three hits, two runs scored and helped turn a double play in the eighth.

Haerther and Calhoun both went 3-for-4, with Calhoun upping his hit streak to six games. An eighth-round pick last June, Calhoun, who plated two Monday, leads the 66ers in homers and RBIs with 29. He was one of the hottest hitters in the Pioneer League a season ago, finishing eighth in the league with a .916 OPS, collecting 25 extra-base hits in 56 games for Orem.

Kyle Hurst, who made two starts for Double-A Arkansas earlier in the season, improved to 2-1 after allowing seven hits over six shutout innings.

Adam Eaton, a rival of Calhoun's in the Pioneer League, plated the only run for Visalia with a double in the seventh, finishing 2-for-4.
