Cowgill, LaHair headed to Salt Lake

PCL's top run producer Ransom leads All-Star team lineup
June 29, 2011
NEW YORK -- For Collin Cowgill, batting .363 through the end of June was a boost to his All-Star candidacy. Having the entire nation behind him helped, too.

Cowgill is headed to Salt Lake as the top vote-getter for the Pacific Coast League in Triple-A All-Star Game voting after the league announced its roster for the July 13 event.

Cowgill, with 12 homers and 52 RBIs for Reno, anchors a PCL lineup that will include Iowa first baseman Bryan LaHair, who is tied for the league's lead in home runs with 21, Omaha second baseman Johnny Giavotella, Round Rock third baseman Brian Barden and Reno shortstop Cody Ransom, who leads the PCL with 70 RBIs.

Memphis' Andrew Brown and Albuquerque's Trayvon Robinson will join Cowgill in the outfield, and Omaha's Clint Robinson was voted in as designated hitter.

Las Vegas lefty Brad Mills will get the start on the mound, and his battery mate will be Sacramento's Anthony Recker.

Isotopes skipper Lorenzo Bundy will draw up the lineup for the game, which is set for Wednesday, July 13, at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City.

Reno's Wily Mo Pena had been the top vote-getter for much of the online voting process but was left off the team after being promoted to Arizona earlier this month. At the time of the announcement, Pena was tied with LaHair for the league lead in home runs and trailed only Ransom in RBIs. He has also hit three home runs for the D-backs.

Rosters were assembled after fans voted online for their favorite players -- 13 All-Stars were elected to the squad by the balloting of the club's field managers and general managers, members of the media and online fan voting, and 17 more were selected by the Pacific Coast League office.

The International League will announce its roster Thursday afternoon. Full rosters for the PCL team are below:
