McMurray named top woman executive

For second straight year, Yakima earns NWL League honors
October 10, 2011
YAKIMA, Wash. -- For the second year in a row, the Northwest League Woman Executive of the Year will reside in Yakima. Laura McMurray was so honored by the NWL teams at the league's fall meeting.

The award is given annually to one woman in the league in recognition of contributions to her City, The Northwest League, and Professional Baseball. Last year, Yakima's own Lauren Wombacher received the award.

Laura is the Chief Financial Officer of the Bears, serving in that capacity since 1999. Along with her husband, Laura also serves as the managing owner of the team. She has lived in Yakima since 2001 and has taken an active role in the city's redevelopment efforts.

Prior to her involvement in Minor League Baseball, Laura worked as an actuary before transitioning to office manager for a national investment firm. She also found time to raise a daughter, Katey, who resides in Western Washington.

"We are so pleased that the Northwest League recognized Laura's contributions," said Bears' General Manager KL Wombacher. "In today's environment, overseeing the finances of a small market Minor League team is a great challenge. Laura has done a fantastic job for us. But as many of our fans know, her involvement does not stop at the office. Laura also takes an active role in assuring that the experience at the ballpark is fun for everyone."
