Red-hot Danish dazzles for Dash

The only thing that could put a stop to Tyler Danish's dominance on Saturday night was his pre-set innings limit.

The White Sox No. 7 prospect tossed six no-hit innings before Class A Advanced Winston-Salem fell at Lynchburg, 4-1.

Danish, who did not figure in the decision, struck out five batters and walked two in his 14th start for the Dash. He retired his final eight batters and ended up facing three batters over the minimum.

"I didn't have my best stuff," the 19-year-old right-hander said. "My off-speed wasn't where I would've liked it. My sinker was really sinking tonight, I kept the ball down, something like 10 ground-ball outs, which really helped me. I had confidence and I threw the ball in the zone as much as I could, and things went well."

Danish has worked under a six-inning limit all season and, despite going six hitless frames for the first time, said he understands that the restrictions will make him a better pitcher down the road.

"Yeah, it's frustrating that I had a no-hitter and had to come out, but I know in the long run it's going to be more beneficiary for me than it would've been to throw 130 pitches and go nine innings for the no-hitter if I had to," he said.

Saturday's outing was the latest in a stellar stretch for Danish. The 2013 second-round pick has allowed three earned runs in his last seven starts, yielding 27 hits over 40 1/3 innings.

"Ever since the third or fourth start I had here, I struggled, and I sat down with my pitching coach [J.R. Perdew]," he said. "I was frustrated. This was the first time I had to deal with failure and he just let me know this game was still the same game, no matter what the level is. I had to make better pitches. I left balls up. Ever since that talk, it's helped me mentally. I struggled one or two times, but I've done what I want to do. I think that talk has changed me mentally and helped me big-time.

"I know this game is a big failure game and I'm glad I went through it at such a young age. To go through it at a level that is going to be challenging. I'm glad I was able to bounce back from it and understand that I'm going to have a couple of bad outings, but the season's not over. It was really huge for me that I got this under my belt."

Overall, Danish is 8-2 with a 1.92 ERA in 21 starts between the Carolina and South Atlantic leagues.

Jose Bautista (1-1) came on in the seventh to protect a 1-0 lead but gave up a two-out two-run double to Emerson Landini. Lynchburg added two runs in the eighth off Euclides Leyer as Jose Martinez delivered an RBI single and Will Skinner added a sacrifice fly.
