The Boise Hawks (29-31, 8-14) defeated the Eugene Emeralds (25-35, 10-12) by a final score of 7-0 on Friday night. The Hawks got their second shutout of the year thanks to six-innings of scoreless baseball from starter Alec Byrd and multi-hit games for Luke Morgan, Daniel Jipping, Trey Jacobs, Greg Jones and LeeMarcus Boyd at the plate.

Boise got on the board quickly in the first inning. Just like last night, Terrin Vavra got on base and Morgan had a triple to knock him in. With Morgan on 3rd-base, Willie MacIver singled to make it a 2-0 game.

In the 2nd inning, the Hawks continued to pile on. Boise got four straight hits to start the inning as Willie Abreu, with the Hawks on rehab assignment, singled with the bases-loaded to make it 3-0 Boise.

With the bases still loaded, Vavra hit a fly ball to left-field and Eugene's left-fielder Nelson Velazquez dropped it and the Hawks scored twice to take a 5-0 advantage.

The bats continued to shine in the 5th inning. Jipping singled to score Cade Harris and Boise added to the lead at 6-0. They added another when Cole Anderson smacked a sacrifice-fly to left-field and the Hawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

On the mound, Byrd gave the Hawks six-innings of scoreless baseball while striking out four. Byrd has not allowed a run in his last 11 innings on the hill. Reagan Biechler, in his debut for the Hawks, did not allow a run over two innings of work.

The Hawks teed off in the 9th inning against Eugene's catcher Brennon Kaleiwahea who came on to the mound. The Hawks scored four runs to take an 11-0 lead while PJ Poulin threw a scoreless inning in the 9th to get the Hawks the shutout.

The Hawks will continue their annual 11-game road trip and play against the Eugene Emeralds tomorrow in Eugene. First pitch will be at 8:05 p.m. on 101.5 KOOL-FM. The Hawks will return home on Wednesday, August 29th to take on the Hillsboro Hops.
