Where Are They Now: Adam Loewen

October 23, 2012
The Baysox just completed their 20th season, and during that time, hundreds of players have come through Bowie. Some have stopped in for just a few weeks and others have been here for years before moving on with their careers. During the offseason, check back to baysox.com to find out where some of those players are now.

Adam Loewen was drafted as a left-handed pitcher with the fourth overall pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2002 First Year Player Draft. Loewen first pitched for the Baysox in 2006, the same year he made his Major League debut with Baltimore.

In nine games (eight starts) with the Baysox, Loewen went 4-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 49.2 innings before making his big league debut May 23, 2006. Loewen also pitched in six games with the Baysox in 2008 as part of a Major League Rehab Assignment.

In his pitching career with the Orioles, Loewen pitched 164 innings and was 8-8 with a 5.28 ERA in 35 games (29 starts). During the 2008 season, Loewen began experiencing pain in his pitching arm that led to him being placed on the Disabled List and eventually moved to the bullpen. The injury, diagnosed as a stress fracture, continued to affect his control and forced him to convert to a first baseman/outfielder.

In October 2008, the Orioles granted Loewen free agency and he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. In 2010, he found himself in the Eastern League, playing for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and facing off against the Baysox six times. Loewen split the 2011 season between Triple-A Las Vegas and the Blue Jays where he made his Major League debut as an outfielder September 7. In 14 games with Toronto he hit .188 with a home run and 4 RBI. Loewen was granted free agency and signed by the New York Mets for the 2012 season. He spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Buffalo, where he batted .227 with 10 doubles and 26 RBI in 59 games.
