Gough K’s Career-High 11, Quintero & Morales Homer in 8-7 Win

DAYTON, Ohio. – The Great Lakes Loons (56-43) (20-15) took their fourth series opener of 2026 against the Dayton Dragons (55-46) (16-19) 8-7 on an 86-degree sunny Tuesday night at Day Air Ballpark.

- Tyler Gough was a tough customer for Dayton batters, striking out 11 of them. The right-hander retired the first 12 he faced, punching out seven. The 22-year-old permitted only three baserunners. His second base on balls issued was followed by his eleventh strikeout.

- Eduardo Quintero and Emil Morales both went deep to left-center field. Quintero hit a 411-foot solo shot in the fifth that impacted the bottom of the scoreboard beyond the left field wall. Morales with two on and two outs in the seventh crushed a 2-0 pitch by Drew Petska over the fence. The 19-year-old has hit 13 home runs with the Loons, it’s his third at Day Air Ballpark this season.

- Dayton tonight had two runs and three hits. John Michael Faile accounted for both runs and two of the three hits. He hit a two-run single in the sixth inning.

- The Great Lakes offense walked nine times; Eduardo Quintero had three of them and scored after all three. Nico Perez drove him home with an RBI groundout in the first inning, Jaron Elkins infield single delivered Quintero across in the ninth.

- Chase Harlan produced the Loons first run with an RBI single to left field in the first inning.

- Dayton tallied five runs in the ninth inning, they did not have a hit. Reynaldo Yean hit the first batter he faced and walked the next three. Justin Chambers hit the first Dragon he battled with the bases loaded to bring the potential tying run to the plate. Alfredo Alcantara’s 6-4 fielder’s choice made it 8-5. An error at second base pointed a runner home and put two in scoring position.

- Davis Chastain entered the game with a two-run lead, one out and the potential tying run at second base. He forced an RBI groundout to third base that was fielded by Chase Harlan with his throw beating Diego Omana to the base. With the equalizer 90 feet away, Chastain induced a flyout to centerfield to save the game.

Rounding Things Out

Tyler Gough’s 11 strikeouts are the most by a Great Lakes pitcher since Zach Root on July 7th, 2026. Both outings were against the Dragons.
