On this day in 2005, Cardinals RHP Jeremy Cook led Springfield to its first shutout win in the organization's history in front of 7,069 fans at Hammons Field.

His 6.0 scoreless innings (3 H, 3 BB, 2 K) against a Tulsa Drillers lineup that included four future Major Leaguers were followed by 3.0 scoreless innings of relief by three different relievers in a 1-0 Cardinals win. Josh Kinney, the first Springfield Cardinals alumni to make his St. Louis Cardinals debut, secured the save.

The game took just two hours and 17 minutes from start to finish. The only run scored came in the first inning when Cardinals LF Shaun Boyd scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of 2B Matt DeMarco with RHP Christian Parker on the mound for Tulsa.

BOX SCORE

While the game was the first team shutout for Springfield, it would be another 123 days before the team's first complete-game (9 Inn.) shutout, accomplished by LHP Randy Leek on Aug. 14, 2005 vs. Frisco.

Boyd and Cook are responsible for a handful of Springfield firsts. Boyd recorded the first hit (4/7 at Arkansas), run (4/7 at Arkansas), and stolen base (4/13 vs. Tulsa in team history). Cook is in the record books for the team's first strikeout (4/7 at Arkansas).

Cook went on to appear in 37 games for Springfield in 2005 before retiring from the sport.
