The Hillsboro Hops have been lucky enough to have 18 year old phenom Kristian Robinson on their team this season. Robinson has been a monster for the Hops by hitting long towering home runs on a regular basis. He has also become a fan favorite in his time with the Hops. As good as he is on the field, he is also stylish off the field and he has picked out few of his favorite hats to share with us.
The New One:
This is Robinson's favorite hat to wear on field. As part of minor league baseball's Copa de la Diversion -- a Latin X community outreach program -- The Hillsboro Hops adopted a new identity of Los Soñadores de Hillsboro. In this new identity, there is an incredible story told behind the logo and name.
The name, Soñadores is a universal term to use when we describe baseball. Players work hard dreaming of making it to the big leagues. The Latinx community is not any different; they risk it all in order to provide for their families. They dream of being the first in their families to go to college, of becoming a leader in their community and lead their people to a better tomorrow. We are all dreamers. You can read more about the Soñadores here.
The logo, as described by Latino Outreach Coordinator Ivan Hernandez, is "an alebrije looking up, aiming for the stars, dreaming." Also in the logo, the fire of liberty is represented in its tail, the rhombuses on its core represent graduation caps, symbolizing how parents risk it all to come to this country so their children have a better future through education. The diverse lines from its snout down through the body represent bridges, because we should build bridges". So not only does the name and logo tell an incredible story, but the New Era fifty nine fifty hat looks gorgeous as well. It is one of the top sellers at Ron Tonkin Field.
To purchase the hat, it can either be done online here, or at the stadium.
The Special Feature
A proud tradition at Ron Tonkin Field is our Salute to Service Weekend. This year's Salute to ServiceWeekend falls between August 2nd and August 4th. Members of our armed forces, past and present, will receive a special military price on tickets through the weekend. First responders will also receive a special price on their tickets. As part of this special weekend, the Team Store will feature a special Hillsboro Hops hat as well.
The Armed Forces Day New Era cap is a stretch-fit hat with a curved brim. A 39THIRTY model from New Era, the hat features a full military camo color, with a gold Hillsboro Hops logo. On the right side of the hat is a badge that includes five stars, representing each branch of the armed forces. Sizes are limited as the hat has grown in popularity through the year. The remaining sizes are Medium - Large.
It is a special hat that accompanies an even more special weekend. A portion of the Hillsboro Hops concourse will be dedicated to veteran services through the weekend. The Hops will be auctioning off game-worn military themed jerseys and the proceeds will go to various non-profits that will be at the stadium through the weekend. This is a must-attend event and you can purchase tickets online here, or call the front office for more information.
The Historical One
The Portland Mavericks hat is worn as a nod to the independent baseball team that played in Portland from 1972-1977 and the Mavericks hat is one of Robinson's favorites. The hat features three colors, red, black and white with the Mavericks' notorious 'M' on the front of the hat. Worn by everyone from Kurt Russell to Jim Bouton, the Mavericks have roots in Portland's baseball history.
The Hat is a 59FIFTY hat by New Era and runs in sizes in1/8-inch increments from 7 to 8 inches. The hat can be purchased in the team store or online here. The Hillsboro Hops wear this hat on the field when they transform into the Mavericks on Monday nights throughout the season.
Hillsboro added a Portland Mavericks 9FIFTY adjustable snapback hat as well.A clean-cut hat that can fit almost any sized head? You cannot go wrong. Check it out here for yourself.
The Mainstay:
The Hillsboro Hops main home hat has been a top seller since 2013, when the team first began playing in Hillsboro. Hillsboro's beloved mascot, Barley, is featured on the front of the hat. Barley is a hop and that hop is a nod to the incredible craft beer scene in the Portland-Metro area and is a logo that has been recognized nationwide. Our home hat appeared on Major League Baseball's Cut4 Top 12 Minor League Baseball hats, all the way back in 2015. The hat only grows in popularity season-to-season as the team digs its roots deeper in professional baseball in Portland.
This home hat comes in a New Era 59FIFTY style hat, that also runs in 1/8-inch increments from 6 5/8 to 8 inches. There are several variations of the hat from companies like Nike, '47 Brand, and more New Era versions.
The Hillsboro Hops have an array of hats that have all of Minor League Baseball buzzing. Come out to a Hillsboro Hops game, as the team offers some of the best beers, hats, and experiences in the entire Portland-Metro area. Also, there is real Major League talent playing for Hillsboro in Kristian Robinson. One day, you want to be able to say you wore the same hat as he did when he was playing baseball in Oregon. This hat can be purchased in both a low-crown and a regular crown style.
