Loons Pitching K’s 15 and Munoz Hits Two-Run Homer in 2-0 10-Inning Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Great Lakes Loons (66-51) (30-23) utilized five pitchers who struck out 15 Fort Wayne TinCaps (50-68) (23-29) in a 2-0 10-inning win on a 73-degree partly cloudy Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.

- Loons’ starter Tyler Gough lowered his season ERA to under two, now with a 1.96 in 36.2 innings. Today, Gough tossed two scoreless and despite a 31-pitch second inning he denied Fort Wayne a run. The right-hander struck out back-to-back batters with two runners in scoring position.

- Maddux Bruns made his 2026 Loons debut. In the third inning, Fort Wayne’s Ryan Wideman with one out, reached on an error at shortstop, moved to second on a balk and stole third base. Yimy Tovar walked to put runners on the corners. Bruns attempted to pick off Tovar and threw it to Eduardo Guerrero. Wideman sprinted to home plate and Guerrero’s throw and Gio Cueto’s tag got Wideman.

- Jacob Frost got the lion share of outs, going 3.1 innings and striking out seven. The left-hander punched out the side in the fifth inning. Frost struck out seven including his final out of the seventh inning. Two of his three walks came with one out in the eighth, Great Lakes then pivoted to Cody Morse. Morse induced a double play lineout caught by Emil Morales who stepped across second base.

- The Loons offense in the first nine innings did not have an extra base hit and had just four hits. TinCaps starter Kannon Kemp permitted back-to-back hits in the second inning but worked around it. The right-hander delivered five scoreless innings.

- Nico Perez started the top of the ninth with an opposite field single. A double play forced by Fort Wayne reliever Bernard Jose with a flyout made it a quick frame. Cody Morse permitted a walk but nothing more in a clean ninth inning.

- In the top of the tenth with the placed runner on third base and one out, Samuel Munoz stepped in to the left-handed batter’s box. Munoz barreled a 1-0 pitch and sent it 415 feet for a go-ahead two-run home run to deep right field. Previously, Munoz was 6-for-30 in at-bats in the ninth inning or later, the home run was his second extra base hit.

- Davis Chastain earned his seventh save of the season. He permitted a walk, the seventh by Loons pitching in the contest, but struck out Bradley Frye to end the game. Frye led the Midwest League with 10 hits this past week.

Rounding Things Out

West Michigan lost in walk-off fashion to South Bend today. The Whitecaps now have a 0.5 game lead over the Loons in the Midwest League East Division second half standings. Great Lakes has 13 games remaining this season.
