Luis Campusano got his first big league call and belted his first big league homer for the Padres on Friday. He’ll have to wait a bit for his next big moment.

MLB Pipeline's No. 51 overall prospect was placed the 10-day Injured List on Sunday afternoon with a sprained left wrist. The move was retroactive to Saturday, when he was scratched from the lineup after suffering the sprain during batting practice, MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell reported.

The Padres’ No. 4 prospect had not played a game above the Class A Advanced level when he joined the team two days ago, hoping to inject an offensive spark where the big league club had lacked it. Prior to his promotion, San Diego catchers had batted .142/.234/.283 for the season, and the club last month lost Francisco Mejia to injury and traded Austin Hedges to Cleveland.

In the lineup as the Padres’ designated hitter on Friday night, Campusano led off the seventh inning with an opposite field homer to right.

“He's crazy strong,” Padres manager Jayce Tingler said after the game. “You watch his [batting practice], the ball just has a different sound off the bat. Being able to go oppo, to see him smile and know he got that first hit and that first homer out of the way -- now he can relax and play.”

Campusano was named California League co-MVP last year -- along with Lancaster’s Luis Castro -- after batting .325/.396/.509 with 15 homers and 81 RBIs in 110 games for Lake Elsinore. Named an MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the season, Campusano was invited to Major League camp this spring and assigned to the Padres’ alternate training site when the season resumed in July.

The Padres selected the Georgia native out of high school in the second round of the 2017 Draft.
