FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Helped out by seven unanswered runs, the Fort Wayne TinCaps lost to the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate) Tuesday night at Parkview Field, 7-2.
Fort Wayne (55-65, 24-31) struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Loading the bases with nobody out, a pair of RBI groundouts gave the 'Caps an early lead.
TinCaps starter Ian Koenig tossed five innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out six. It is the ninth straight outing Koenig has gone at least five innings, and the third straight appearance with at least six punchouts.
Dayton (42-75, 21-31) second baseman Peyton Stovall ended a triple shy of the cycle, tying the game up at two in the fifth inning with a solo home run, his second of the season. Stovall reached base four of his five times at the plate.
The Dragons took the lead in the seventh inning, scoring four runs on three walks, an error, and two hits, including a two-run double by Yerlin Confidan. Dayton sent all nine batters to the plate, scoring all four runs with two outs.
Dayton added an insurance run in the ninth as the Dragons' pitching allowed just one base hit across the final seven innings. The group retired 22 of the final 24 TinCaps batters faced. The TinCaps, with the loss, have been eliminated from the 2025 Midwest League Playoffs.
