Aces Open Season Play With Aviators in the Silver State Diamond Challenge.

RENO, Nev.-The Reno Aces kickoff its 2022 season with their opening series with their cross-state rivals, the Las Vegas Aviators, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, to begin this years’ Silver State Diamond Challenge presented by Nevada Donor Network. Reno looks to continue from its 2021 dominant 15-10 performance against the Aviators, including an 8-4 record at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Gil Velazquez will lead the team this year as manager, while in charge of the Aces’ pitching staff will be 1990 Cy Young Award Winner Doug Drabek. Hitting coaches Mark Reed and Nick Evans will guide Reno’s offense. Athletic Trainer Mike Powell, Strength & Conditioning Coach Andrew Friedman and Team Videographer Dylan Olsonawski round out the on-field support staff for the club this season.
Prospects galore fill the Diamondbacks farm teams this season. Arizona was recently named the No. 4 Minor League System by MLB Pipeline, with the 18th-ranked prospect in baseball, Alek Thomas, donning the Aces navy, red, and white to start the season. Additional Diamondback prospects beginning the season in Reno include Ryne Nelson, Josh Green, and Stone Garrett.
Reno is primed for an exciting and competitive season with returning Aces players Nick Heath and Stuart Fairchild paired with the youthful, talented arms of Luis Frias and Mitchell Stumpo.
Also, after a one-year using the league name of Triple-A West, the return of the 100-plus-year-old Pacific Coast League moniker as the Aces will battle their West Division opponents, the Las Vegas Aviators, Sacramento River Cats, Salt Lake Bees, and Tacoma Rainiers throughout the season.
Aces fans can see this year’s team in action at Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday, April 12th, as Reno hosts the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Festivities start when the gates at Greater Nevada Field open at 12:05 p.m. The first pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Tickets for the 2022 season can be purchased at www.renoaces.com.
