The Columbus Clippers registered 14 hits in an 11-7 win over the Tides Tuesday night at Huntington Park.

The Clippers took the opening game of the three-game series behind a big night from Oscar Mercado, who had four hits, three RBI and three runs to pace the offensive attack. Mercado got the Clippers offense started with a solo homer off of Norfolk starter Luis Ortiz (0-2), then later added a pair of doubles to lift Columbus to a 12-6 record.
Christopher Bostick led Norfolk's offense with a pair of RBI doubles as he extended his hitting streak to eight games. Bostick's eight-game run is the longest by a Tides player this season.
Mason Williams and Anthony Santander both had two hits and an RBI in the setback, while Jace Peterson added a double, two walks and a run scored.
Ortiz surrendered five runs (four earned) on five hits over four innings of work. He issued four walks and struck out one while throwing just 48 of his 85 pitches for strikes.
The two teams will continue their series on Wednesday, with first pitch slated for 6:35. Keegan Akin is set to start for Norfolk, while the Clippers are set to counter with Michael Peoples.
