Luis Sardinas hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning to lift Norfolk to a 4-3 win over Syracuse Friday afternoon from NBT Bank Stadium.

With the game tied at 3-3, Sardinas hit a solo shot into right field off of David Goforth (0-1) to give Norfolk the lead. It was the first homer of the season for Sardinas, who has now hit safely in five of seven games to open the season.

The Tides bullpen made the lead hold up, escaping bases loaded threats in the eighth and ninth innings. Matt Wotherspoon (1-0) earned the win in relief, with Josh Edgin working two innings of shutout relief. Andrew Faulkner earned the save, escaping a bases loaded, no out threat to help Norfolk even the series at a game apiece.

Andrew Susac extended his hitting streak to five games with two hits and an RBI, while Garabez Rosa and Ruben Tejada added two hits apiece.

Norfolk starter Yefry Ramirez allowed a run on four hits over 4.2 innings of work. He walked a pair and struck out four, throwing 58 of his 93 pitches for strikes.

The Tides and Chiefs will continue their four-game series on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch set for 1:05. David Hess (0-0, 1.80) is set to make the start for Norfolk and will be opposed by former Tides right-hander Edwin Jackson (0-0, 2.25).
