SPRINGDALE, AR – Playing as the Growlin’ Chickens, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals dropped their third straight game to the Arkansas Travelers, falling 13-2 Friday night at Arvest Ballpark.

For the seventh time in franchise history, every hit Northwest Arkansas recorded went for extra bases, as the club tallied three doubles and one home run.

Maikel Garcia gave the Growlin’ Chickens an early lead, however, as he connected on his second home run of the year three pitches into the first inning, the team’s first leadoff home run of 2022. Garcia added a double to lead off the sixth, his second hit of the day for his 20th multi-hit game of the season.

Tyler Cropley doubled in the fifth, while Ryan Grotjohn doubled in the seventh. Grotjohn doubled Robbie Glendinning to third after he opened the inning with a walk. Glendinning scored moments later on an RBI groundout from Tucker Bradley, the Growlin’ Chickens’ second and final run of the day.

Once again, a big inning was the blow to starting pitcher Alec Marsh, as five runs in the fourth inning were the only he allowed in the contest. He faced four over the minimum in the other four innings, striking out four while being charged with his fifth loss of the season.

Reliever Christian Chamberlain was tagged for six runs in the sixth inning, then Yefri Del Rosario surrendered two in the eighth, after retiring seven of his first eight batters.

Andres Sotillet took over for Del Rosario in the eighth inning, retiring the final four batters of the night.

The Northwest Arkansas Growlin’ Chickens return to action Saturday at 6:05 p.m. CT with Angel Zerpa starting on the mound at Arvest Ballpark.
