IronBirds Sweep Spikes
Summary
The IronBirds completed a three-game sweep of the State College Spikes on Thursday night, winning 6-5 in 14 innings. Kirvin Moesquit scored on a throwing error to seal the win.
Starting Early
The Spikes took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Leobaldo Pina hit into a fielder's choice, allowing Craig Aikin and Thomas Spitz to score, giving State College a 2-0 lead. Cole Lankford continued the inning by hitting a RBI double into the right-center gap, scoring Pina and extending their lead to 3-0.
Insult to Injury
In the top of the fifth, Josh Swirchak lined a ball off Jean Cosme's leg, forcing him out of the game. Cosme was able to walk off the field under his own power and was replaced by Daniel Ayers. Later in the inning, Spitz's grounded out and brought home Swirchak, making it 4-0 Spikes after four and a half.
Rally Time
Stuart Levy hit a two-out single to start a rally in the bottom of the fifth. Cedric Mullins followed up with a double, advancing Levy to third. Ricardo Andujar then singled up the middle to make it 4-2. DJ Stewart walked to push Andujar to second base, before Randy Gassaway reached on an error to load the bases for Steve Laurino. Laurino would tie the game at four with a two-RBI to right field.
Adding on
In the sixth, Andujar collected his third RBI of the evening on a single to left field. Levy came around to score giving the IronBirds a 5-4 lead.
"Knot" This
In the top of the ninth, Michael Prichard collected an RBI single with two outs to tie the game at five and force extra innings.
Add Ons
Drew Turbin chopped a ball to second, Swirchaks throw pulled Luke Harrison off the bag and let Kirvin Moesquit scamper home to win the ballgame in the 14 innings.
Bird Watching
Ricardo Andujar collected three RBIs on the night… Steve Laurino earned two RBIs on the evening before being ejected in the 12th…. Garrett Cleavinger earned his second win of the season by allowing one hit and one walk, in one inning of work… The game took four hours and 36 minutes to complete, the second longest of the season for Aberdeen... The IronBirds have two walk-off wins, both on errors by secondmen.
