Raptor Leads Pioneer League in Several Pitching Categories
August 9, 2014

Ogden Raptors pitcher Jose De Leon was promoted to the Great Lakes Loons Saturday.

De Leon had been one of the most dominant pitchers of the Pioneer League this season. In 10 appearances, eight starts, the Puerto Rico native was a perfect 5-0 with a league-leading 2.65 ERA. In 54.1 innings, the former Southern Univ. Jaguar struck out 77 batters, 15 more than anyone else in the league.

De Leon was named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week for the second week of the season. In two starts against Orem, De Leon was 1-0 and allowed just four runs in 13 innings with 18 strikeouts.

De Leon was among the league leaders in several categories. Led the league in ERA (2.65), strikeouts (77), WHIP (1.16), batting average against (.217) and was the only qualifying pitcher with a perfect record. Among starters per nine innings, De Leon led the Pioneer League in strikeouts (13.01) and fewest baserunners (10.05).

De Leon is coming off his best start of the season. Against Helena on Friday, De Leon struck out 11 Brewers in seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and no walks.

The Raptors and Brewers continue their three-game series tonight with the game at 7:00, which can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
