Raptors, Osprey Split Doubleheader

Holmes to Start Friday
August 15, 2014

The Ogden Raptors and Missoula Osprey split a double header Thursday night at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.

In Game 1, the Osprey won 4-2 behind two home runs.

In the first inning, Sergio Alcantara led off the inning with a walk. Three batters later, Stewart Ijames hit a two-run homer off the foul pole in right field, just 287 feet away, for a 2-0 lead.

Missoula added to its lead in the second with a solo homer from Dane McFarland, his seventh of the season, to make the score 3-0.

The Raptors tried to come back with solo homers from Brian Wolfe and Julian Leon, but ultimately fell 4-2.

In Game 2, the Raptors won 3-1 to avoid a sweep.

Scoreless until the fourth, the Raptors got on the board. With one out, Cody Bellinger singled and moved to third on two wild pitches. Justin Chigbogu then hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Bellinger and give the Raptors a 1-0 lead.

The Raptors added another in the fifth. Melvin Santana started the inning by reaching on an error by the second baseman Ozuna. After stealing second, Santana moved to third on a flyout by Theo Alexander. Two batters later, Devan Ahart hit a bunt single to second base to score Santana and put Ogden up 2-0.

Once Missoula scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, the Raptors added an insurance run in the sixth. Leon got hit by a pitch to start the inning. After Chigbogu singled, Leon was lifted for a pinch runner in Joe Meggs. Tyler Wampler then drew a walk to load the bases. Santana then hit a chopper to third that scored Meggs and put Ogden up 3-1.

The Raptors will travel to Helena for a four-game series starting Friday. 2014 first-round pick Grant Holmes will make his Raptors debut for Ogden on the mound against J.B. Kole. Game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
