The highlight of the Storm Chasers' "Hit The Books" Literacy Program, the 2016 Bookmark Contest Winners have been announced after more than 10,000 submissions were received. This year's edition of the "Hit The Books" Program saw 45 schools participating, reaching a total of 15,943 students.
Since 2007, The "Hit The Books" literacy program, presented by Nebraska Educational Savings Trust, has encouraged elementary students that reading is an essential skill to have. Teachers at each school determine four different reading goals to be attained for the program. Students who "round the bases" receive two tickets to a 2016 Storm Chasers contest, in addition to another prize when they attend that game.
"Hit The Books" students can also participate in the Bookmark Contest, with a winner announced for each grade level. Fourth grader Brooklyn Bratetic from Prairie Queen Elementary, whose bookmark will be distributed as a prize to all students, was then selected by the Storm Chasers as the overall winner, with the announcement and presentation made on January 12. All seven of the winning entries can be viewed by clicking here.
