Chasers' Bats Awaken in 8-6 Victory

Homers from Gallagher and O'Hearn pace Omaha to series-evening win

DES MOINES, IA (May 18) - The Storm Chasers enjoyed their best offensive night in over two weeks, as Omaha defeated Iowa 8-6 on Friday night at Principal Park.
Omaha jumped on Cubs starter Duane Underwood Jr. for 2 runs in the top of the 1st. Ramón Torres singled, Frank Schwindel singled, Ryan O'Hearn doubled in Torres, and Cam Gallagher knocked in Schwindel with a groundout.
Iowa took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd against Scott Barlow . Wynton Bernard homered, Mike Freeman walked, and Efren Navarro homered for a 3-2 Cubs advantage.
Paulo Orlando and Humberto Arteaga both doubled in the top of the 4th, tying the game at 3. The Cubs regained the edge in the home half of the 5th, on a single by Mike Freeman, a stolen base, an error, and a Chesny Young single.
Scott Barlow was lifted with 2 outs in the 5th, having yielded 4 runs, 8 hits, and 2 walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out 3.
The Chasers erupted for 4 runs in the top of the 6th. Cam Gallagher hit his first home run of the season, and Jack Lopez re-started the rally with a 1-out single. Humberto Arteaga doubled again, bringing Lopez around to score, and Logan Moon singled to put 2 runners on. Billy Burns followed with a 2-run double, scoring Lopez and Moon, making it 7-4 Omaha.
Duane Underwood Jr. (L, 2-4) was charged with 6 runs on 11 hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 1.
Ryan O'Hearn led off the top of the 7th with his 2nd home run of the year, stretching the lead to 8-4.
Richard Lovelady (W, 2-1) worked 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, and was credited with the win. Justin Grimm pitched the bottom of the 8th, and Mike Broadway was summoned for the bottom of the 9th.
Iowa didn't go quietly, as Wynton Bernard singled and Mike Freeman homered, cutting the lead to 8-6. Broadway retired the next 2 batters before walking Bijan Rademacher. Eric Stout  (S, 2) was summoned to record the final out, giving Omaha a split of the series' first two games.
The Storm Chasers (15-26) will continue the series tomorrow night at 7:08. RHP Glenn Sparkman (1-0, 1.50) will pitch for Omaha, while Iowa's starter is to be determined.
