Omaha Falls 7-2 to Rochester

PAPILLION, NEB. – The Omaha Storm Chasers (24-24/57-65) fell 7-2 to the Rochester Red Wings (30-20/75-48) on Saturday night despite a 3-for-4 game from Alejo Lopez. Hunter Patteson (0-1) went 5.0 strong innings in his Triple-A debut, but the Storm Chasers couldn’t find a way to win to lose the sereis.

The Red Wings opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning with a 2-run home run off Patteson, then Rochester added another run on a fielding error to extend the lead to 3-0 in the frame.

From there, Patteson worked a scoreless 2nd and 3rd inning, then fired a perfect 4th inning as well. He returned with another scoreless frame in the top of the 5th inning. Nolan Hoffman took over for the 6th inning and retired all 3 batters. Patteson ended the game going 5.0 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts in his first game for the Storm Chasers.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Peyton Wilson drove in Alejo Lopez to cut the deficit to 3-1, then Matt Moore pitched a 3-up, 3-down bottom of the 7th inning.

Carson Roccaforte made it a 3-2 game in the bottom of the 7th inning with a sacrifice fly, but the Red Wings added 3 more runs to their lead off Carlos Duran in the top of the 8th inning to bring the score to 6-2. All the runs were unearned off Duran after a one-out throwing error, allowing a single to bring across one run and a double to bring across two more. Scott Alexander finished the inning sitting down the only batter he faced.

Alexander came back out for the top of the 9th inning, but surrendered an RBI single to make it a 7-2 gap. Omaha then went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th inning, finishing the 5-run loss.

The Storm Chasers will take on the Red Wings again at Werner Park on Sunday night. First pitch is set for 5:05 P.M. CT and Vince Velasquez is scheduled to start for Omaha.
