Williams pitches quality start as Toro and Pineda hit home runs in victory

PAPILLION, NEB. – Henry Williams (3-2) worked 6.0 scoreless innings as the Omaha Storm Chasers (18-14/51-55) shut out the St. Paul Saints (18-14/60-46) on Saturday night 4-0. Abraham Toro hit a home run in his second straight game while Jack Pineda hit his first career Triple-A home run as part of the Storm Chasers’ 4-run win.

Neither team scored through the first 3 innings, with Omaha starter Henry Williams working back-to-back scoreless frames in the 1st and 2nd inning, then going 3-up, 3-down in the 3rd inning.

The Storm Chasers got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning when Gavin Cross doubled and Brett Squires sent him home with a sacrifice fly to give Omaha a 1-0 lead.

Williams followed with a scoreless top of the 5th inning and perfect top of the 6th inning, then Jack Pineda hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to extend the Storm Chasers’ lead to 3-0.

Omaha turned to Jose Cuas to open the 7th inning, finishing Williams’ night for his team-leading 4th quality start. Williams went 6.0 scoreless innings, striking out 5 and allowing just 3 hits in his performance. Cuas kept the Saints from scoring in both the 7th and 8th innings, retiring St. Paul 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th inning.

Abraham Toro gave the Storm Chasers an extra run of insurance with a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th inning, and Justin Topa fired a 3-up, 3-down top of the 9th inning to close the game and finish the 4-0 win.
