Chiefs Fall in Clinton 4-1

Whalen collects RBI double in loss

Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs scored the first run of the game but ultimately fell to the Clinton LumberKings 4-1 Friday night. The Chiefs are now 3-12 in the second half and 33-51 overall on the season.

Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs scored the first run of the game but ultimately fell to the Clinton LumberKings 4-1 Friday night. The Chiefs are now 3-12 in the second half and 33-51 overall on the season.

     The Chiefs scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth against Tanner Andrews. Delvin Perez was hit by a pitch with one out and he scored standing up on a double to left by Whalen. Brandon Donovan walked but the Chiefs couldn't add on to the 1-0 lead.
     Clinton got even in the fourth against Kyle Leahy. Connor Scott singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a double play. He scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. An inning later the hosts took the lead as Marcos Rivera doubled and eventually scored on an infield single by Peyton Burdick.
     The LumberKings added two more in the sixth. Evan Edwards walked with one out and scored on a double by Thomas Jones. After moving to third on a bad throw home by Perez, Jones scored on a sacrifice fly from Rivera as Clinton took a 4-1 lead.
    Leahy (4-6) took the loss as he allowed four runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out six and walking one. Tony Locey, the Cardinals 2019 3rd round pick, made his Chiefs debut with a strikeout and a walk issued in one hitless innings. Freddy Pacheco allowed a single and struck out one in a shutout frame.
     The Chiefs now head to Burlington for a three-game series starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The Chiefs will start LH Colin Schmid against Bees LH Hector Yan.
