San Jose, CA – The San Jose Giants scored the game’s last six runs, pulling away from the Quakes for a 6-1 victory at Excite Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.
Giants’ starter Niko Mazza allowed just one run on three hits over five innings, helping the Giants to their eighth straight head-to-head win over Rancho.
The Quakes grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth against Mazza (2-1), as Samuel Munoz singled and later scored on a Niko Perez RBI single.
Quakes’ starter Sterling Patick (1-3) was sharp through four, but one of four Rancho errors cost him in the fifth inning as the Giants took the lead for good.
San Jose added two in the sixth thanks to a two-run double by Jean Carlos Sio and then two more in the eighth, taking a commanding 6-1 lead.
Giants’ reliever Ryan Slater allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings to earn his first save.
Rancho (2-3, 43-28) will send right-hander Aidan Foeller (3-2) to the mound on Thursday, as he’ll take on San Jose’s Charlie McDaniel (6-3) at 6:30pm.
