Rancho Cucamonga, CA – A ninth-inning rally got the Quakes even, but the Stockton Ports tallied two runs in the tenth and eventually held on for a 5-3 win on Thursday night at LoanMart Field.

Brandon Lewis nearly won the game in the bottom of the ninth, as he blasted a Jose Mora pitch off the top of the left-field wall, scoring Sam McWilliams and Jake Vogel to even the game at 3-3. But Mora settled down to strike out both Jorbit Vivas and Sauryn Lao to force extras.

Stockton got a pair in the tenth and never looked back. Tyler Soderstrom greeted Nelfri Contreras (0-1) with an RBI double, then scored on a ground ball to second, giving Stockton a 5-3 lead.

Rancho had two men on in the tenth, but Edwin Mateo grounded into a game-ending double-play, giving Mora (1-1) the win and Stockton’s first of the six-game series.

Quakes’ starter Carlos Duran enjoyed his best outing, as he struck out eight batters over three scoreless innings.

Stockton starter Jack Cushing was brilliant over six innings, allowing just two hits and one run, a solo shot to Vivas in the fifth.

Rancho (10-10) will go with Gavin Stone on Friday night, while Stockton will counter with Jake Walkinshaw (1-0) in the fourth game of the six-game set. Game time is set for 6:30pm.

Friday night is a Feel Good Friday, thanks to U.S. Bank, as fans can purchase Quakes’ memorabilia on the Live Source App with the proceeds to benefit the Inland SoCal United Way. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field!
