Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Visalia Rawhide jumped out to an early lead and then held on, as they defeated the Quakes on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field, a 9-6 final.
Modeifi Marte homered in the first and had three hits to pace Visalia’s 14-hit attack, as they earned their first win of the series.
Rancho starter Samuel Sanchez (1-1) endured his second straight difficult start, as he surrendered seven runs on nine hits over just 3.1 innings, including a pair of homers.
Trailing 7-0 in the fourth, the Quakes put a rally together, with Niko Perez and Elijah Hainline collecting RBI hits, making it 7-3 against Visalia starter and eventual winner, Mervin Fell (2-1).
The Quakes would chip away all night, with Perez finishing with three different run-scoring hits to lead Rancho’s eight-hit effort.
Trailing 9-6 in the ninth, the Quakes were unable to bring the tying run to the plate, as closer Jake Fitzgibbons worked around a lead-off walk to earn his third save.
The Quakes (4-7, 45-32) will send Aidan Foeller (3-3) to the mound on Thursday night, while the Rawhide will counter with lefty Adonys Perez (4-4), with first pitch at a special start time of 5:45pm.
