RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels unveiled a new lineup of food items headlined by the Big Dill Dog – an all-meat frank sandwiched between a split dill pickle and topped with spicy mustard – during the CBS6 "Countdown to Opening Day" special, which aired live Monday at Park RVA.
A gluten-free alternative to a traditional hot dog, the Big Dill Dog will be available at The Dog House cart located on the main concourse behind home plate.
Other new food items featured during the event included the chicken parmesan sandwich, a crispy chicken breast topped with a trio of mozzarella cheese sticks, marinara sauce, and parmesan cheese, dill pickle fries with chipotle ranch sauce, and souvenir helmet nachos.
"One of the things we love about Richmond is the amazing food scene, and we want to contribute to it," Flying Squirrels CEO Todd "Parney" Parnell said. "Our food and beverage team has done a really great job creating new and different food experiences for our fans to enjoy this year at The Diamond."
The upper concourse concession stands are also being rebranded for the 2023 season. The first-base upper stand has been renamed the Crispy Corner and will feature a wide selection of fried food options including the chicken parmesan sandwich and dill pickle fries. The third-base upper stand is now called the Funnville Grill and will offer grilled selections such as Italian sausages and specialty burgers.
In addition to The Dog House, other specialty food carts back for 2023 include the Cheesesteak Station and the Walk-Off Taco, which will feature souvenir helmet nachos.
Flying Squirrels' partners Potbelly Sandwich Shop, located in the first-base lower concession stand, and Papa Johns Pizza, located across from the first-base lower concession stand, will also return for the 2023 season. Fans can once again purchase a Papa Johns Pizza Pack, which includes four tickets, a 14-inch Papa Johns cheese pizza, and four bottled sodas. Visit SquirrelsBaseball.com/Tickets to purchase online and use the code "PAPAJOHNS" at checkout to redeem the offer. Advanced purchase is required. For more information, contact the Flying Squirrels ticket office.
A complete guide to dining at The Diamond can be found here.
As part of The Diamond's transition to a cashless facility, made in an effort to reduce concession line wait times, only card payments will be accepted at most concession stands. Cash will still be accepted at the first-base lower concession stand on the main concourse as well as the Budweiser Thirsty Acorn, will-call ticket booth, and Squirrels Nest Team Store.
Additionally, a reverse ATM, located on the main concourse near the Cheesesteak Station and lineup boards, will be available for fans to exchange cash for a Visa debit card that can be used anywhere inside and outside of the ballpark. Fans will not be charged fees for using the reverse ATM and no personal information will be collected.
