Richmond wraps up extended stay at home against Altoona

The Flying Squirrels continue their two-week stay in the River City by welcoming back the Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Tuesday, June 6 through Sunday, June 11. Richmond and Altoona split a six-game series in their last meeting at The Diamond May 2-7.

This six-game set kicks off with Go Nuts for Reading Night, includes a salute to first responders, a one-of-a-kind sugar skull bobblehead giveaway, a celebration of Richmond's hockey heritage, and concludes with the always-popular youth jersey giveaway day!

Tuesday, June 6 vs. Altoona Curve

If you're twinning, you're winning! Twins (or just friends/siblings who dress alike) are invited to enter to win prizes throughout the game.

The festivities will kick off with a "Go Nuts for Reading" parade around the warning track presented by M&T Bank beginning at 5:15 PM. Students must be in line by 5:45 PM to participate in the parade.

It's also another Silver Squirrels game! Fans 55 and older are eligible to join the Silver Squirrels presented by OrthoVirginia and receive exclusive member benefits such as tickets to every Tuesday regular season home game, a Silver Squirrels T-shirt, a voucher for 10 free food items, and more. Wednesday, June 7 vs. Altoona Curve

As part of Wine & K-9s, the first 1,000 fans ages 21 and older will get a Nutzy wine topper courtesy of New Kent Winery. Fans can also enjoy $5 glasses of wine and $6 wine slushies from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Wine Cart located on the main concourse across from Gilbane Fan Services.

Additionally, dogs are admitted free every Wednesday regular season home game! Please request a dog-friendly section if accompanied by a pet.

Thursday, June 8 vs. Altoona Curve

Join the Flying Squirrels in saluting the first responders who keep our communities safe! Law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS can receive two free General Admission tickets simply by presenting a valid ID at one of the ticket booths outside The Diamond.

Then, stick around after the game and enjoy fireworks from up close and inside the fences presented by Triangle Plumbing.

Friday, June 9 vs. Altoona Curve

Celebrate Día de Muertos in June with las Ardillas Voladoras de Richmond! The first 1,000 fans ages 15 and older will go home with an Ardillas Voladoras sugar skull bobblehead courtesy of Pepsi Zero Sugar.

Fans can enjoy happy hour drink specials from 5:30-7:30 PM including $2 12-ounce domestic beers at all lower concession stands, upper concourse beer carts and the Budweiser Thirsty Acorn. $2 Pepsi fountain sodas are also available at the Papa Johns stand on the main concourse.

Saturday, June 10 vs. Altoona Curve

The Flying Squirrels will celebrate Richmond's rich professional hockey history with special appearances by former members of the Richmond Renegades. Additionally, the team will wear Renegade-inspired jerseys which will be auctioned during the game with proceeds benefitting the Special Olympics of Virginia. Fans can place and track bids on game-worn jerseys by visiting rfshockey.givesmart.com. The auction will close at 9 PM the night of the game. Jersey auction participants do not need to be present to win.

Sunday, June 11 vs. Altoona Curve

One of the most popular kids' giveaway items is back! The first 1,000 fans ages 14 and younger will go home with a Flying Squirrels replica acorn logo jersey (sizes YS-YXL) courtesy of the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

Families are invited to play catch on the field before every Sunday home game courtesy of Nesquik. Fans can access the field through Section 107-108 gate from 12:45-1:00 PM.

Then after the game, kids 14 and younger can run the bases thanks to Richmond Family Magazine. Line up outside the Squirrels Nest Team Store immediately following the game. Parents and guardians will be permitted on the field with their kids and can meet them at home plate after they run the bases.
