The Flying Squirrels are back home in RVA to kick off a FUNN-filled 2024 season!

The Flying Squirrels’ 14th season kicks off against the Akron RubberDucks, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. Opening Night, featuring a ceremonial first pitch from former Major League All-Star, World Series champion and Flying Squirrels alum Joe Panik and postgame Super Blast Fireworks, is sold out, but there are plenty of other opportunities to join the FUNN during the first week of the season!

The first series of the 2024 season features two additional fireworks shows as well as VCU Night and Nutasha’s birthday bash with an exclusive kids-only bobblehead giveaway.

Tuesday, April 9 vs. Akron RubberDucks: Opening Night Celebration

6:35 p.m. | Gates 5:00 p.m. | SOLD OUT

A celebration of the start of the season and the Flying Squirrels’ 14th consecutive Opening Night sellout!

  • World Series-style lineups for both teams begin at 6:10 p.m.
  • Former Major League All-Star Joe Panik to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
  • Enjoy one of the largest Super Blast Fireworks shows following the game.
  • Opening Night Celebration is presented by Chick-fil-A.

Wednesday, April 10 vs. Akron RubberDucks: Reading Night with Wine & K-9s

The Flying Squirrels recognize students throughout Central Virginia who successfully completed the Go Nuts for Reading Program presented by M&T Bank.

  • Pregame Reading Night parade begins at 5:15 p.m. Students must be in line by 5:45 p.m. to participate.
  • Enjoy $5 glasses of wine and $6 wine slushies from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Wine Cart located on the main concourse across from Gilbane Fan Services.
  • Dogs admitted for FREE in sections 101-103, 201-203 and first base General Admission. Please request a dog-friendly section if accompanied by a pet.

Calling all Ram fans! Rock your black and gold to rep VCU.

  • VCU men’s head basketball coach Ryan Odom will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
  • Special appearances to also include Rodney the Ram and the VCU Spirit Squad.
  • In-Your-Face fireworks from up close and inside the fences to follow the game.
  • VCU Night is presented by Virginia Credit Union.

Friday, April 12 vs. Akron RubberDucks: Friday Happy Hour and Las Ardillas Voladoras Copa de la Diversion Kick-Off

Las Ardillas Voladroas take flight for the first time in 2024! RVA’s home for Latin Heritage will celebrate local Hispanic businesses.

  • Las Ardialls Voladoras team up with the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to celebrate local Hispanic businesses and communities.
  • Enjoy the best Happy Hour in RVA! Sip on $2 domestic drafts from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at all lower concession stands, upper concourse beer carts and the Budweiser Thirsty Acorn. $2 Pepsi fountain sodas are also available at the Papa Johns stand on the main concourse.
  • Las Ardillas Voladoras Copa de la Diversion Kick-Off Night is presented by the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The Flying Squirrels pay tribute to Virginia’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

  • Arrive early for special pregame performances by VUU and VSU cheerleaders
  • The Virginia Union University Choir to sing “Lift Every Voice” during the seventh inning stretch.
  • In-Your-Face fireworks from up close and inside the fences to follow the game.
  • HBCU Night is presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Sunday, April 14 vs. Akron RubberDucks: Nutasha’s Birthday Bash and Bobblehead Giveaway

1:35 p.m. | Gates 12:30 p.m. | Tickets

Nutasha is turning 8 years old, and the Flying Squirrels are celebrating with members of the Squirrel Tails Kid Club!

  • Members of the Squirrel Tails Kids Club presented by Atlantic Union Bank get in FREE! The Squirrel Tails Kids Club is free to join for children ages 14 and under and includes a General Admission ticket voucher to all Sunday home games. Click here to register.
  • The first 1,000 kids ages 14 and under will go home with a Nutasha birthday bobblehead.
  • Bring your glove and play catch on the field from 12:45-1:05 p.m.
  • Kids ages 14 and under can run the bases following the game presented by Richmond Family Magazine. Kids can line up to run the bases outside the Squirrels Nest Team Store at the end of the first-base side of the main concourse. Parents and guardians are allowed to accompany their children onto the field and meet them as they cross home plate.
  • Nutasha’s Birthday and Bobblehead Giveaway is presented by Seredni Tire & Auto.
