Squirrels & Habitat for Humanity Team Up

Players and Staff Get Involved With Habitat for Heroes Program

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the 2012 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, are proud to announce that Military Appreciation Day at The Diamond will be celebrated with support from the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity. The Squirrels will be assisting with the Habitat for Heroes program on Saturday, June 15th and will be honoring Habitat representatives, volunteers and families on field before Saturday's scheduled 6:05 PM game. The Habitat for Heroes Program assists veterans in need of quality, affordable housing. Nutzy, along with Squirrels staff and select players will be on hand Saturday morning from 9:00 AM- 11:00 AM to assist in kick-starting the renovations of a home for the Dismuke family. The house was donated by Bank of America to Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity in support of the affiliate's efforts to build affordable housing in partnership with low-income families in the Richmond area. The Dismuke home is located at is 12331 Sir James Court, Henrico, VA. Players, Richmond Habitat representatives and the Dismuke family will be available for media.

"Habitat for Humanity is a not only an important part of the community but a very worthwhile cause," said Flying Squirrels Vice President and COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "It is our pleasure to do what we can, especially for this deserving family of four. It is rewarding to know who will be making this place their home for years to come.

Habitat for Humanity's Habitat for Heroes Program designed to assist civilian veterans, returning veterans, wounded veterans, and families of the fallen in the greater Richmond area. Habitat for Heroes is a program that will provide veterans with access to quality affordable housing, the opportunity to engage with the community and fellow veterans, and the chance to serve others by volunteering. The Squirrels will be working with Jason and Marie Dismuke along with their two daughters to start on building the home. Jason has served two tours of duty in Iraq and is currently in the National Guard.

                9:00-11:00 AM - Nutzy, Parney & players at house renovation location

                5:40 PM - On-Field Recognition

                5:50 PM - Ceremonial First Pitches

                6:05 PM - Game Starts

Sunday, June 15th is Military Appreciation Night at The Diamond presented by Budweiser. The first 2,000 fans ages 21 and over will receive a free camo hat and fireworks will follow the game.
