Funnville - Rain, lighting and more rain halted the series finale for the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday evening at The Diamond. The game was initially delayed forty minutes due to rain. First pitch was thrown at 7:15 p.m., and the two squads played three innings before more rain and inclement weather swept in at 8:16 p.m. Fans with a ticket to Thursday's game can redeem their ticket to a game for the rest of the homestand and for a future game in April, 2019. The Flying Squirrels will begin their final series of the 2019 season on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Friday in Funnville is the Final Free Shirt Friday and Happy Hour of the season. The first 1,500 fans (15+) will receive a free 2019 All-Star Week, long sleeve shirt

The game was called with a runner on base and two outs in the fourth inning with Reading in the lead, 1-0.
Making his second start since being reinserted in the Richmond rotation, Garrett Williams commanded the strike zone in over his first two inning of work. The lefty retired the side in order in the first inning, needing just eight pitched to get all three outs. Williams punched out the side in the second and tallied four k's over the first two frames.
The Squirrels threatened with a pair of two out hits in the bottom of the second inning. Connor Seabold. Jonah Arenado lined a single into left field for the first Richmond hit of the evening. Matt Winn followed with a single into right centerfield and advanced to second base on the throw into third, putting runners on the corners for Ronnie Jebavy. Jebavy ended the threat with a pop up.
Reading scraped a run off Williams for a 1-0 lead in the third. Malquin Canelo roped a double to begin the inning and took third on a base hit. Williams then unleashed a wild pitch, scoring Canelo for the only run of the game.
The Flying Squirrels continue the final homestand of the year with the first of four games against the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals) Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jake McCasland (4-7, 4.79) is scheduled to start the series opener vs. RHP Caesar Vargas.
