Bradley and Mississippi Braves Drop BayBears 5-1

Pearl, MS - After more than a two hour rain delay, the Mississippi Braves and Mobile BayBears were finally able to start game two of the series in Pearl. Mississippi topped Mobile by a final of 5-1 at Trustmark Park Saturday night and the M-Braves stretched their first-place lead over the BayBears to two games in the Southern League South Division Standings.

Mobile (24-18, 56-56) lost two straight games for the first time since dropping a second straight game back on July 20. The BayBears' bats never got going against Braves' starting LHP, Jed Bradley (6-5). The lefty held the BayBears to one run on four hits through seven frames. Bradley struck out nine batters on the night. LHP Phillip Pfeifer and RHP Akeel Morris held the BayBears scoreless over the final two innings to secure the win.

The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Levi Hyams and Dustin Peterson both reached on singles to center field. Carlos Franco followed with a double to left field, putting the Braves out front. An inning later, In the fifth, Connor Lien reached on a two-out single. He then stole second and scored on Hyams' liners to center. Hyams took second on an errant throw by the center fielder before scoring on a Dansby Swanson single to right, extending the Braves lead to 3-0. Peterson followed with a single and then Franco doubled to drive home two more runs.

Mississippi (26-16, 60-51) tallied five runs on 10 hits. The BayBears pushed across just one run on five   hits. Mobile made it a 5-1 game in the sixth inning. Chuck Taylor reached on a force out and Jamie Westbrook singled, putting two runners aboard before Domingo Leyba's RBI-single to center.

RHP Taylor Clarke (5-6) was stuck with the loss for Mobile. The righty dropped his sixth decision of the season. Clarke started and worked 4.2 innings, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out three.

The BayBears continue their five game series against Mississippi with game three scheduled for Sunday night at 5:00 PM ct.

Following the series against the M-Braves, Mobile stays on the road for five games in Montgomery and two games in Biloxi. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium on August 19 to open up a three game home stand against the Biloxi Shuckers.
