Fairhope Claims Third Straight BayBears Classic

February 28, 2011
Hunter Ellenburg threw a no-hitter with just two walks as Fairhope beat Bryant 10-0 in six innings for its third straight BayBears Classic championship at Hank Aaron Stadium Saturday night.

"I tell you what, it was a team effort," Pirates coach Stu Fuller said. "Hunter was excellent in the championship game. I thought we had players step up all day."

Chris Boyett Silver Slugger award-winner Toby Thomas had a double and three RBIs, Peyton Fuller added two RBIs and Ellenburg one RBI for Fairhope (5-0), which scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and four in the sixth to bring the game to an early close.

Trey Place (0-1) gave up five hits and six runs in four innings for the Hurricanes (4-1).

Bryant reached the finals on Tyler Mason's two-out, walk-off grand slam in a 7-4 win over Robertsdale.

In the other semifinal, Fairhope beat Baldwin County 10-8. Robert Baugh had three hits, and Toby Thomas, Wes Kent and Peyton Fuller each drove in runs for the Pirates. The Tigers, who trailed 10-3 going into the final inning, got two hits and two RBIs from Joe Devan, and two RBIs from J.A. Harville.
