Rickey Henderson Attending Opening Night Festivities

MOBILE, Ala. - At Wednesday's monthly BayBears Pepsi Media Luncheon, the Mobile BayBears Professional Baseball Club announced that Baseball Hall of Famer and MLB's all-time Stolen Base leader Rickey Henderson will join the ever-populating list of stars and baseball dignitaries that will appear at Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday, April 14th for the grand opening of the Hank Aaron Childhood Home & Museum.

Henderson, who retired with 1,406 career stolen bases along with the all-time records in runs scored, lead-off home runs and unintentional walks will stand with fellow Hall of Famers Bob Feller and Ozzie Smith, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig, Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Conner and the guest of honor, Hank Aaron, to open the doors to the Hank Aaron Childhood Home & Museum.

The museum process is currently in its final stages with the home's interior nearly finished. Memorabilia directly from the National Baseball Hall of Fame will soon be implemented into the museum as Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson will also be in attendance for the Opening Night festivities. Tickets are on sale now at www.mobilebaybears.com starting at $5-7 per person. The BayBears will host the Birmingham Barons in their home opener on April 14th at 7:05 p.m.

Mobile Radio Veteran Scott O'Brien Honored

Also on Wednesday, the BayBears rewarded longtime Mobile radio veteran Scott O'Brien with the first 2010 BayBears Community Achievement Award in the media category. O'Brien began his radio career in 1975 and has covered University of South Alabama basketball and baseball for over 30 years.

O'Brien was "overwhelmed" and extremely thankful to be recognized with this year's honor. He was even presented with a short video that was shot in 1982 by his fellow radio cohort, Charlie Ocean, at Mobile's former G100.

BayBears to Participate in Luck of the Irish Parade

The BayBears made several other announcements on Wednesday including their involvement in this year's Luck of the Irish Parade on Saturday, March 13. Scott O'Brien is expected to be the Grand Marshal in this year's parade. Executive Director of the Exchange Club Family Center of Mobile Lydia Pettijohn expressed her excitement about the BayBears' involvement.

Bishop State Baseball at "The Hank"

It was additionally mentioned that Bishop State Community College will use Hank Aaron Stadium as its home-field during their 2010 baseball season while they await the construction of their brand-new baseball field. Bishop State Athletic Director Tim Broughton submitted his gratitude to the BayBears' for the use of the ballpark during this upcoming baseball season which begins at Hank Aaron Stadium on March 2.

"The BayBears are happy to help Bishop State by providing the field at Hank Aaron Stadium for their home games," said BayBears President/COO Bill Shanahan. "We hope that this can help raise awareness for Bishop State Baseball and help raise money for their new field."

The Mobile BayBears will open their 14th season in Montgomery on Thursday, April 8. They return home for the Grand Opening of the Hank Aaron Childhood Home & Museum and their home opener on Wednesday, April 14 against the Birmingham Barons.
