B-Mets Sweep Sens, Earn 70th Win of Season

HARRISBURG, PA - The Binghamton Mets completed a three-game sweep over the Harrisburg Senators with a 6-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The victory made 2013 B-Mets the fastest team in franchise history to reach the 70 win mark.

For the third consecutive game, Danny Muno got the offense started in the top of the first inning. He began the game with a hard line drive to right field. The ball was misread by Destin Hood, and it rolled all the way to wall for a leadoff triple. Two batters later, Josh Rodriguez hit a fly ball to right field deep enough for Muno to score on a sacrifice fly.

After the first, Harrisburg pitcher Rob Gilliam held the B-Mets scoreless for the next four innings. They threatened in the third inning by getting Alonzo Harris to third base, but he was left stranded there.

On the mound. Noah Syndergaard continued the tone set by the Binghamton pitching staff from the previous two nights. Billy Burns beat out an infield single in the third inning for the first hit against the righty, but he did not allow a runner to move into scoring position in his five innings of work. Syndergaard only gave up two hits, and struck out three to earn his fifth win of the season.

The B-Mets busted the game open with four runs in the sixth inning. Muno began the big inning with a solo home run into the Harrisburg bullpen in right field. It was his eighth home run of the season, and his first since July 6th. Travis d'Arnaud followed with a hard-hit single, and Rodriguez walked to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Rhyne Hughes was up next and brought home both runners by knocking a two-run triple into the right field corner. Two batters later, Travis Taijeron drove in Hughes with an RBI double off the top of the left field wall.

With a five-run cushion, Binghamton Armando Rodriguez took over for Syndergaard in the sixth. He did not allow a hit in three relief innings, and kept the shutout intact. The offense got one more insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. Xorge Carrillo provided a pinch hit single into right field which brought home the sixth run of the game. In the bottom half, Ryan Fraser worked around two walks, but tossed a scoreless ninth.

The win gave Binghamton their fifth series sweep of the season. Sunday was their last scheduled game against the Senators; Binghamton finished 7-3 against them in 2013.

The B-Mets (70-43) have an off day on Monday. They return home to take on the Altoona Curve on Tuesday to start a four-game series. Tuesday is a doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium, with the first pitch of game one at 5:05 PM. Both games are slated for seven innings. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show is set to begin at 4:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
