Dykstra, Lopez Earn Highest Year-End Honors

September 2, 2013

BINGHAMTON, NY - The 2013 Regular Season Eastern Division Champion Binghamton Mets are proud to announce that Allan Dykstra has been named Eastern League Most Valuable Player and Pedro Lopez has been selected as the league Manager of the Year.

Dykstra, 26, represented the B-Mets as both a Mid-Season and Postseason Eastern League All-Star in his third year with the team. Through 139 games, he has set career-highs with 20 home runs and 80 RBI. A native of San Diego, California, he leads the league with a .436 on-base percentage and ranks third with a .497 slugging percentage. His 101 walks are the most by any Eastern Leaguer since 2003.

Acquired from the San Diego Padres prior to the 2011 season, Dykstra's best stretch came in June when he hit.364 over a span of 23 games. He compiled a .527 on-base percentage, slugged seven home runs and racked up 23 RBI.

Lopez earns Manager of the Year honors for the first time in his managerial career. The second-year B-Mets skipper has guided the club to a league-best 85-54 record, setting a franchise record for victories in a season. Lopez also steered the team to the postseason for the first time in nine years and helped orchestrate the club's first regular season division title since 2000.

The 2013 B-Mets are the fourth team in the Mets system that Lopez has led to the postseason. The native of Puerto Rico managed playoff teams with Brooklyn Cyclones in 2009, the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2010 and the St. Lucie Mets in 2011. Lopez won a Texas League Championship (Double-A) as a catcher for the Wichita Wranglers (San Diego Padres) in 1992.

Dykstra, Lopez and the B-Mets (85-54) continue their final regular season series against the Fisher Cats Sunday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Logan Verrett takes the hill against RHP Marcus Walden. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Tickets are still available for Binghamton's final homestand of the regular season as they welcome in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for a four-game set starting Friday, August 30. Visit www.bmets.com or call 723-METS to purchase tickets.
