Michael Bourn homered and drove in four as the Bees took the series opener against the Reno Aces, 9-5, Tuesday night at Smith's Ballpark.
After the Aces scored a first-inning run, Salt Lake rallied for four two-out runs in the fourth on run-scoring doubles from Dustin Ackley and Matt Williams and a two-run homer from Bourn, his first longball as a Bee. Reno scored two in the fifth to pull within a run, but the Bees added insurance on Bourn's sixth inning two-run single and Nolan Fontana's seventh inning two-run homer. Fontana's homer was his team-leading seventh of the season, and he matched a season high with three runs scored. All nine Bees reached base at least once in the game.
Troy Scribner (7-2) started on the mound for the Bees and earned his league-leading seventh win of the season, striking out six over five innings. Deolis Guerra worked a scoreless sixth, Cody Ege got the first two outs of the seventh, and Eduardo Paredes worked the final two and one-third innings to record his first Triple-A save.
The Bees and Aces continue their four-game series Wednesday at Smith's Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets and additional information, visit slbees.com.
