August 31, 2018

SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 30, 2018) - For the second consecutive night the Salt Lake Bees and Reno Aces needed extra innings with the Aces taking a 3-2 win to finish the three-game series.

SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 30, 2018) - For the second consecutive night the Salt Lake Bees and Reno Aces needed extra innings with the Aces taking a 3-2 win to finish the three-game series.

Salt Lake and Reno each scored just a single run in regulation as Jose Miguel Fernandez launched a solo home run for the Bees in the second inning while Deven Marrero hit a solo shot for the Aces in the fifth to tie the game. Each team had chances in the tenth but Juinichi Tazawa and Conor Lillis-White held the Aces off the board in the top of the 10th. In the bottom half of the inning the Bees loaded the bases with nobody out but Reno was able to induce a double play and strikeout to finish the frame. Reno would score twice in the top of the inning against infielder Sherman Johnson while Matt Thiass would drive in a run in the bottom half, but the Bees could not close the gap.
Ivan Pineyro turned in an excellent start for the Bees allowing a single run over six innings while striking out seven. Deck McGuire, Tazawa and Lillis-White then combined to allow only two hits over four innings to keep the game tied. Fernandez ran his hitting streak up to eight games with the home run. At .332 on the season, Fernandez leads the PCL in batting over Oklahoma City's Alex Verdugo with four games to play in the season.
The Bees begin their final series of the year on Friday night as they start a four-game series with the Fresno Grizzlies. Friday night is Fan Appreciation Night with a TV giveaway every inning and fireworks after the game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with tickets available at www.slbees.com.
