Missions Finish the Season with a 57-63 Record
SAN ANTONIO – The Corpus Christi Hooks spoiled the season finale for the San Antonio Missions. The Missions allowed six runs in the first inning and three in the second. The Missions fall to the Hooks by a final score of 9-1.
Matt Waldron made the start for the San Antonio Missions after being reinstated from the Injured List Sunday morning. It was his first appearance since August 17th when he was removed for an arm injury.
It was a not a warm welcome for Waldron and the Missions in the season finale against the Corpus Christi Hooks. Waldron failed to record an out as he allowed five earned runs to score in the top of the first inning. Scott Schreiber got the scoring started with an RBI double. David Hensly hit a three-run home run. Alex McKenna drove in a run with an RBI double. Lastly, Ross Adolph drove in a run with an RBI triple. The Hooks recorded six runs on five hits and batted around their order.
Brandon Komar pitched the remainder of the first inning in relief of Waldron. He ran into his own troubles in the top of the second inning. The Hooks added three more runs to make it a 9-0 ballgame. Enmanuel Valdez drove in a run with an RBI double. Later on in the inning, Luke Berryhill drove in two runs with a single to center field. In two innings of work, Komar allowed four earned runs on five hits.
The Missions offense had their first scoring opportunity in the bottom of the third inning. Kelvin Alarcon started the inning with a base hit. Following a strikeout from Chandler Seagle, Kelvin Melean hit a double to right field. Esteury Ruiz loaded the bases with a bunt single. All three runners were left stranded after Ethan Skender struck out looking and Eguy Rosario flew out to the warning track.
San Antonio scored their first run in the botttom of the fourth inning. Agustin Ruiz reached base with a one-out double to right field. Ruiz came around to score after Olivier Basabe reached base on an RBI single. Basabe hit a line drive to Barefoot who lost the ball in the lights, allowing Ruiz to score and Basabe to reach second base. The Missions trailed 9-1.

The San Antonio Missions begin their 2022 campaign on Friday, April 8th on the road against the Corpus Christi Hooks. The Missions will host their first home game of the 2022 season on Tuesday, April 12th against the Frisco RoughRiders.
