Missions Score 10 Runs, Collect 16 Hits in Thursday Night Victory

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Missions combined for 10 runs, 16 hits, and three home runs during their Thursday night victory over the Amarillo Sod Poodles. All nine players in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit.

The Missions offense got off to a cold start and scored their first run in the third inning. Meanwhile, the Sod Poodles took a 2-0 lead after scoring runs in the first and second inning.

Dominic Fletcher launched a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to put Amarillo on the board. Osvaldo Abreau drove in a run in the second inning on an RBI single.

In the third inning, the Missions offense got started with a two-out rally. Eguy Rosario reached on an infield single. Esteury Ruiz drove in Rosario with an RBI double.

The 2-1 score stayed in place until the top of the seventh inning. The Missions unloaded on Amarillo with seven runs, eight hits, and two home runs during the inning.

Dwanya Williams-Sutton hit a two-run home run to give the Missions their first lead of the night. Rosario drove in two runners with a double to right field. Kyle Overstreet picked up an RBI with a base hit. Michael Curry hit a two-run home run over the left field wall. The Missions took an 8-2 lead.

San Antonio added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning. Juan Fernandez began the inning with a base hit. After two outs, Ruiz connected on a two-run homer to left field.

Osvaldo Hernandez was the starting pitcher for the Missions. He allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings while striking out two batters. Henry Henry recorded his third win of the season after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings. Joe Beimel also pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Jose Quezada allowed one earned run during his ninth inning.

The Missions will continue their six-game series against Amarillo on Friday, July 30th. Right-hander Adrian Martinez (6-3, 2.38) is scheduled to pitch for San Antonio against right-hander Ryne Nelson (0-1, 4.01). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
