San Antonio’s Alec Martinez Named TCL Co-Pitcher of the Week

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio’s Alec Martinez was named Texas Collegiate League Co-Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league today. The award covers the span from June 6th – June 13th.

During that span, Martinez started one game for the Flying Chanclas on June 11th. In a 5-0 win, the right-hander tossed seven shutout innings while striking out 11 batters. His previous high this season was 5.

He is now 1-0 on the year with a 1.47 ERA in three games pitched. Martinez has struck out 18 batters in 18.1 innings pitched while allowing only four walks.

His 1.47 ERA is the fourth best in the league among qualifying pitchers. He is tied with teammate Kolby Lunsford for the most innings pitched this season.

Martinez is the second Flying Chanclas player to be awarded Co-Pitcher of the Week with Lunsford winning the award in week one.

The right-hander graduated from Moody High School and currently attends Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.

The San Antonio Flying Chanclas are 10-2 on the season. They are back in action Friday, June 18th on the road against the Brazos Valley Bombers. They return to Nelson Wolff Stadium on Tuesday, June 22nd to face Brazos Valley.
