Burrows fans 10 Squirrels, SeaWolves win 5-3

RICHMOND, Va.--- Burrows' ten strikeouts and a big third inning for Erie lifted the 'Wolves over Richmond Thursday at The Diamond 5-3.
The SeaWolves put up five runs in the top of the third against the starter Sam Coonrod. Zack Cox knocked in Simcox and Castro on a single to open up the scoring with two outs. After Dawel Lugo walked, Christin Stewart belted his 21st home run of the year to right field to make it 5-0 Erie headed to the bottom the third.
Richmond immediately answered in the home half of the third inning. Slade Heathcott brought in a run on an RBI single, then C.J. Hinojosa's sacrifice fly to left scored Jeff Arnold. After three innings, Erie led 5-2.
Beau Burrows had a career night on the mound for Erie after striking out 10 Squirrels and only allowed two runs through five innings.
The Erie bullpen stayed strong throughout the rest of the game. Gerson Moreno worked a scoreless sixth with a strikeout, and then Kurt Spomer shut down the Squirrels in the seventh inning. Zac Reininger allowed one unearned run in the eighth, setting up Garcia in the ninth.
Bryan Garcia struck out the side in the ninth inning en route to a 5-3 victory over the Flying Squirrels, giving the righty his seventh save.
Burrows (4-3) picked up the win while the SeaWolves handed Erie Coonrod (3-10) the loss.
The SeaWolves return to The Diamond tomorrow at 7:05. LHP Tyler Alexander (5-6, 5.26 ERA) will face Richmond's LHP Nate Reed (1-2,  7.32 ERA).
