Erie edged by Richmond in series finale, lose 3-2

Castro lands a single and scores run in loss

RICHMOND, Va---- The Flying Squirrels handed Erie their fourth straight loss Sunday at The Diamond, 3-2.


Dawel Lugo's RBI single off of Dan Slania gave Erie the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first at The Diamond.


Richmond's K.C. Hobson landed an RBI double to right center off of Matt Crouse with two outs to immediately tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first.


The Flying Squirrels took a 2-1 lead on a Myles Schroder single that scored Hunter Cole from second.


A.J. Simcox tied the game in the fifth inning, bringing in Zack Cox on a sacrifice fly to centerfield to make it 2-2.


Flying Squirrels left fielder Caleb Gindl drove a solo shot to right field to take a 3-2 lead on Crouse in the sixth inning.


Jarett Martin worked a scoreless 1.1 innings to get his first save, taking down Erie 3-2.


Crouse (6-4) took a loss in his first start against Richmond, and Dan Slania (3-1) worked 7.2 innings in the win.


The SeaWolves will send Artie Lewicki (9-3, 3.69 ERA) to the mound Monday against the Altoona Curve against a starter to be determined. The game will start at 7:00 at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
