Bolsinger, Erben Combine on Three-Hit Shutout

Hawks Blank Captains 3-0 on Saturday Evening
August 27, 2011
South Bend, IN - It took the South Bend Silver Hawks only two hours and 11 minutes to shut out the Lake County Captains by a 3-0 final on Saturday evening at Coveleski Stadium. Mike Bolsinger and Jeremy Erben combined to allow only three hits as the Hawks defeated the Captains for the fifth straight time.

Bolsinger (WP, 6-6) was in complete control from the beginning, allowing just three hits over his 7.0 innings on the mound. The righty from the University of Arkansas struck out seven and walked none in his latest gem, facing just one batter over the minimum in his time on the mound.

Erben (SV, 6) picked up where Bolsinger left off, recording the final six outs in order to pick up the save. It was Erben's first save since June 15th at the Lansing Lugnuts.

Offensively, the Silver Hawks scored the only runs they needed in the bottom of the second against Captains starter Danny Salazar (LP, 0-1). Matt Helm walked and stole second, then scored on Jhoan Pimentel's single combined with an error by the first baseman when he dropped the throw in from the outfield. Pimentel later scored on a wild pitch for the 2-0 lead.

Yazy Arbelo expanded the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the third. The blast curled just inside the foul pole down the right field line, allowing Arbelo to increase his home run total to 30 and his RBI total to 92 - both league highs.

The final home series of the year continues with game two at 2:00 PM on Sunday at Coveleski Stadium. RHP Jeff Shields (8-12, 4.49 ERA) is scheduled to start for South Bend against Lake County's RHP Jordan Cooper (2-7, 4.91 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 1:40 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
