Marte DL'd with Shoulder Strain

July 14, 2009
South Bend, IN - In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the South Bend Silver Hawks have announced that OF Alfredo Marte has been placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain. The move is retroactive to Saturday, July 11th.

Marte left the game on Thursday, July 9th at Beloit in the top of the ninth inning with a 0-2 count, although it appeared as if the shoulder was bothering him earlier in the game. He has not played since, missing the final game against the Snappers and the entire series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Marte has been solid for the Silver Hawks this season, leading the team with 44 RBIs. Through 303 at-bats, he has a .264 average and three home runs. Mainly in the DH role, Marte has also played all three outfield positions, batting anywhere from second to sixth in the Silver Hawks lineup.

The South Bend roster currently stands at 24 active players plus four on the disabled list. The Midwest League limit is 25 active players.

The Silver Hawks open up a six game home stand on Wednesday night against the Kane County Cougars at Coveleski Stadium. For more information about the Silver Hawks or to purchase tickets, please visit www.silverhawks.com.
